A blend of action, commentary, and offbeat wit, JERONIMO re-energizes this pastiche by grounding it in debates over Indigenous autonomy and sustainable land use. The hero tweaks the superhero figure in three ways. First, he has no evident superpowers—his presence is the point. Second, he doesn't appear to lead others; rather, he's inspired by two women, one Indigenous, one white. Third, his anachronistic behavior is a morally provocative response to injustice most superheroes don't confront. It culminates in a surreal hot air balloon chase over Albuquerque, the man hanging on for his life.

Used to getting girls by his freakish athleticism, Clark is floored when rejected by one who goes off to Princeton to be a writer. He tries to suppress his innate powers, and becomes a newspaper writer to win her, resulting in daily, often comic, agony—and first-hand disdain for superhero movies. His self-supression is finally untenable, and he must choose to leave this world or stay.

Tabitha, 23, is a strip dancer at a night club. By day, she trains for the U.S. Pole Dance Federation's National Championship, the sport her passion and refuge. One day, she joins a fellow dancer to give lap dances to wounded veterans at the naval hospital. Her deepening bond with the men helps her face her own painful past. This is a competitive dance movie with an edge---and a heart. POLE STAR puts the chrome pole, already in gyms around the world, at the center of a meditation on independent women, changing views of artistic taste and sexual respect, and the toll of war.

TWO VIRGINS juxtaposes the moral outrage of incest with that of civilian casualties in a war of choice, to challenge viewers’ silence about the latter. And instead of dealing in the blood and gore of conventional war films, it leads viewers to face the enormity of violence in one setting, i.e., a family, as it resonates with the violence of war.

Aluna, 7, follows a honeyguide bird in Mozambique to rescue a hive of bees hurt by chemicals. Girl and playful bird form a bond as they encounter danger, reckless commerce, and beauty in savanna and forest. An animated feature, THE HONEYGUIDE blends ecological realism and child-like wonder for a vivid, poignant story of defending the richness of the world.
